Valuing People Now

Valuing People Now is the Government’s new strategy (big plan) for people with learning disabilities.

Valuing People Now explains what the Government thinks should happen to make things better for people with learning disabilities.

Valuing People Now explains what the Government will do and what it expects different services to do.

It says that:

  • People with learning disabilities should have the same rights and choices as everybody else.
  • People with learning disabilities have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • People with learning disabilities should have the same chances and responsibilities as everybody else.
  • Family carers and families of people with learning disabilities have the right to the same hopes and choices as other families.

The North Tyneside Learning Disability Partnership Board completed an Annual Report about their work, which was sent to the Valuing People Regional Programme Board. The Regional Board took information from North Tyneside, and the other eleven local authority areas in the North East, to develop a Regional Plan which was sent to the Department of Health.
